As the Tour’s fever mounted in the final hours before the decisive time trial, the man under huge pressure prepared for the biggest ride of his life — Carlos Sastre took a nap.
Neither arrogant nor insecure, Sastre was simply calm.
Another telling sign of his Sastre’s personality: On the decisive stage to L’Alpe d’Huez, he took on the role of domestique without hesitation, dropping back into the caravan to retrieve bottles on the HC Col de la Croix de Fer for teammate and then-race leader Frank Schleck.
